Position: Devops Engineer
Client: Financial Information Services Client
Type: 6 month contract + high possibility of extensions to 2 years
Location: 3 days a week on site downtown Toronto
Rate: 55-60/hr incorporated - some flex for senior candidates
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 6+ years experience as a devops engineer at large enterprises
- CI/CD \& Automation
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, supporting Java-based applications and services
- Standardize build, test, and deployment workflows across environments
- Implement pipeline automation for builds, testing, security scanning, and deployments
- Improve pipeline reliability, observability, and failure handling
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Experience operating cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- familiar with ha-proxy and nagios, aws cloudwatch- plus
- experience with loki/grafana, aws firelens container log router – plus
- experience with Github actions
JOB DESCRIPTION
The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and operating reliable, secure, and automated infrastructure and deployment pipelines that support Java-based applications and cloud platforms. This role plays a critical part in improving delivery quality, deployment predictability, and operational stability across product and internal systems.
The role works closely with application developers, platform teams, and vendors to ensure that environments, pipelines, and tooling are production-ready, auditable, and fit for regulated client environments.
Java Platform Support
- Support Java-based applications (build, packaging, deployment, runtime configuration)
- Collaborate with development teams on Maven/Gradle builds, dependency management, and release processes
- Troubleshoot build and deployment issues related to Java runtimes and application configuration
Infrastructure \& Cloud Operations
- Design, deploy, and operate secure and scalable cloud infrastructure (AWS needed)
- Implement infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation or equivalent)
- Support containerized and non-containerized workloads
- Monitor system health, performance, and availability and respond to incidents
Reliability, Security \& Compliance
- Ensure environments and pipelines meet security and audit requirements
- Participate in audits, penetration tests, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
- Implement access controls, secrets management, and secure deployment practices
Operational Ownership
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and deployment issues end to end
- Improve operational documentation, runbooks, and deployment standards
- Proactively identify risk, fragility, and manual processes
