Staff Nurse - Eden Ward (open to Newly Qualified Nurses)

Job Overview

Band 5 Staff Nurse – Eden Ward, Wexham Park Hospital Join Eden Ward, a 17-bedded inpatient Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care unit, providing specialist care and chemotherapy treatments for patients across a range of specialities. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurse to develop their skills within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

You will be responsible and accountable for assessing patients’ care needs and planning, implementing and evaluating high-quality, evidence-based care with professionalism and autonomy. You will contribute to maintaining excellent clinical standards, ensuring safe, patient-centred care at all times.

The role involves leading and supporting members of the nursing team, monitoring standards of care, and participating in quality improvement initiatives and service development projects. You will work closely with the Matron and Junior Sisters/Charge Nurses to support the ongoing development of the ward and the professional growth of nursing staff.

You will also have opportunities to take a leadership role within the team and, when required, deputise for the Ward Sister/Matron, helping to maintain an organised, effective workforce and attending relevant meetings.

Main duties of the job

Delivering high-quality nursing care to patients with a wide range of acute conditions.

Coordinating patient care across the multi-disciplinary team to ensure comprehensive management.

Administering haematology and oncology treatments safely and effectively

Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual patient care with minimal supervision

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that treatments are correctly carried out in accordance with given policy

Responsible for the assessment of complex care needs of chemotherapy patients and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care

Lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the Nursing Team

Work collaboratively with the other members of cancer services team to facilitate the development of the service

• Current or pending NMC Registration

Desirable criteria

• Trained in the administration of chemotherapy

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult / stressful situations
• Able to prioritise workload (self and others) and meet deadlines
• Able to train and supervise junior staff

Desirable criteria

• Has experience or competent in administration of chemotherapy and care for patients undergoing cancer treatments

Special Requirements

Essential criteria

• To work in other areas of the trust when required
• Able to work flexible shifts, weekends and bank holidays as required

Experience Essential criteria

• Acute Medical Nursing Environment
• Competent in basic life support and IV administration
• Effective working with multidisciplinary teams

Desirable criteria

• Experienced in working in oncology
• Has experience or training with administration of chemotherapy
