Our client, a reputable organization within the financial services sector, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team on a 6-month contract. This role offers a hybrid work model based in Toronto, providing exposure to a dynamic, fast-paced environment with strong potential to contribute to core finance operations and reporting.

About the Opportunity

As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the integrity of financial reporting and the month-end close process across a portfolio of accounts. This is a hands-on role suited for someone comfortable working with high volumes of data and reconciliations in a deadline-driven environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support the preparation and review of monthly financial reporting for multiple accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness
• Execute full-cycle accounting, including journal entries (accruals, prepaids, adjustments) and general ledger maintenance
• Perform complex account reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances across balance sheet and income statement accounts
• Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring timelines are met and deliverables are audit-ready
• Support regulatory, tax, and government reporting requirements as applicable
• Partner closely with internal stakeholders, including Finance leadership, to respond to ad hoc reporting and analysis requests
• Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives, particularly around reconciliations and reporting workflows
• Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails to support internal and external audit requirements

About You

• 4+ years of experience in accounting within financial services (insurance, banking, asset management preferred)
• Strong experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting, including month-end close ownership
• Proven ability to handle a high volume of reconciliations with accuracy and attention to detail
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis)
• Strong understanding of accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP experience is an asset)
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate variances and explain drivers
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
