Resident Civil Engineer
Netherton Hub – Peterhead (site-based, full-time)

- Contract Length: 6 months (likely extension)
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Rate: £650–£750 per day (Umbrella PAYE)
Project Overview
This role supports the delivery of a major energy infrastructure hub comprising large-scale transmission and substation works, including HVDC converter stations, AC substations, and associated enabling works. The project is a key part of the UK’s transmission network, facilitating renewable energy integration and transfer.
The Role
As a Resident Civil Engineer, you will operate in a dual capacity, acting as both the Client Engineer and NEC Supervisor on site.
You will collaborate closely with project management teams, designers, contractors, and key stakeholders to manage and coordinate health \& safety, technical delivery, and quality assurance across civil works packages.
The position requires a strong engineering-led mindset, with a focus on resolving technical issues, coordinating design challenges, and ensuring successful on-site execution rather than purely construction management duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee civil and structural construction works to ensure compliance with design and specifications
- Maintain detailed and accurate site records (diaries, resources, progress, weather, photos)
- Review RFIs, TQs, and contractor documentation including:
- Quality Plans
- Construction Phase Plans
- Method Statements \& Risk Assessments
- Inspection \& Test Plans
- Contractor designs
- Undertake inspections and testing activities to verify compliance
- Identify and manage defects, coordinating resolution with project teams
- Review programmes to ensure alignment of sequencing, interfaces, and inspections
- Support accurate as-built documentation, capturing design changes and lessons learned
- Provide on-site technical support and resolve engineering and coordination issues
- Liaise effectively with contractors, designers, and multidisciplinary teams
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring a strong civil engineering background with a focus on technical delivery, rather than purely supervision or construction management.
You should be comfortable working in complex, large-scale infrastructure environments and capable of addressing engineering challenges in real time.
Key Skills \& Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience in a Resident Engineer or similar client-facing engineering role
- Experience operating as an NEC Supervisor (desirable)
- Strong technical problem-solving and design coordination experience
- Background in:
- Heavy civils
- Structural or building projects
- Multi-disciplinary infrastructure environments
- Experience in energy or transmission projects (desirable, not essential)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability to work on-site and collaborate across project teams
