Job Description
ABOUT YOUR ROLE
As a Project Accountant, you will be reporting to the Director of Finance. Your responsibilities will include the following:
- Assembling progress draws and performing variance analysis
- Reconciling quarterly construction reports to project records and recording budget and cost adjustments as needed
- Preparing project cash flow forecasts
- Advising on project cost coding
- Supporting the Development, Construction, and Sales \& Marketing departments with ad hoc reporting
- Monitoring project performance metrics, including IRR
- Preparing quarterly budget updates and other project reporting for investors
- Monitoring compliance with loan conditions and financial covenants
- Monitoring Letters of Credit and deposits, and reconciling quarterly
- Managing the accounting for a portfolio of development projects
- Assisting with full-cycle accounting for project entities as needed
- Monitoring equity interest schedules
- Performing job cost to GL reconciliations and preparing associated journal entries
- Managing joint venture (JV) accounting
- Supporting year-end close for project entities
- Identifying and implementing process optimization opportunities
WHAT YOU BRING
You will ideally bring the following qualifications and traits:
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation, or enrolled in the CPA program, considered an asset
- 2-5 years of experience in development project or construction accounting
- A track record of identifying operational reporting efficiencies and process enhancements
- Solution-oriented with a growth mindset
- Easygoing, approachable, and coachable
- Analytical and detail-oriented
- Strong commercial awareness
- Sound written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel
- Experience with financial modelling considered an asset
