**We’re Hiring: General Manager – Supermarket Operations \| Ethiopia**
GM Supermarket is looking for an experienced
**General Manager**
to lead the full operations of a growing supermarket business in Ethiopia.
We are looking for a hands\-on retail leader who understands how to run a modern supermarket across
**food, non\-food, bakery, fresh produce, butchery, household goods, inventory, merchandising, customer service, and team management**
.
This is a key leadership role for someone who can take ownership of daily operations, improve store performance, build strong teams, control costs, manage suppliers, and deliver an excellent shopping experience for customers.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Oversee full supermarket operations, including food, non\-food, bakery, fresh, FMCG, and household categories
* Manage store performance, sales growth, profitability, margins, and operating costs
* Lead department managers and frontline teams to achieve operational targets
* Ensure strong stock control, inventory accuracy, replenishment, shrinkage control, and waste management
* Improve merchandising, product display, pricing discipline, promotions, and customer flow
* Manage supplier relationships, purchasing coordination, and product availability
* Ensure high standards in hygiene, food safety, cleanliness, and customer service
* Develop systems, SOPs, reporting structures, and performance controls
* Train, coach, and hold teams accountable for results
* Work closely with ownership/senior management on business strategy and expansion plans
**Ideal Candidate Profile:**
* Proven experience as a
**General Manager, Operations Manager, Store Manager, or Retail Manager**
in a supermarket, hypermarket, retail chain, FMCG, or similar business
* Strong knowledge of supermarket operations, especially food, non\-food, bakery, fresh products, and daily retail execution
* Experience managing large teams and multiple departments
* Strong commercial understanding of sales, margins, stock rotation, wastage, shrinkage, and profitability
* Ability to build structure, enforce discipline, and improve underperforming operations
* Excellent leadership, communication, problem\-solving, and decision\-making skills
* Experience in Ethiopia or East Africa is an advantage
* Fluency in English is preferred; Amharic or other local language knowledge is an advantage
