Data Scientist / Data Engineer

What We're Looking For

• Python skills with Polars and/or Pandas
• NLP and fine-tuning lightweight ML models
• Scala and Spark experience for data engineering tracks
• Designing, building, and evaluating data pipelines
• Familiarity with agent frameworks — LangGraph
• Ability to adapt and evaluate ML systems across different locales and data domains
• Pipeline orchestration and optimisation experience for large-scale, multi-source ingestion

Example of work tasks

• Build Spark pipelines to fetch web content using fine-tuned lightweight ML models
• Fine-tune ML models from base models to perform task-specific attribute extraction; build training data, manage quality, and evaluate performance end-to-end and at component level
• Expand an internal AI research agent to new geographic markets, adapting logic and evaluating performance per locale; add support for new place attributes including evidence collection and reasoning logic

These skills are important as it is a short term assignment \& it is crucial to quick come up to speed and be open to changes in work tasks during these months:

• Learning agility — Willing to pick up new technology, work with legacy code, and adapt quickly
• Communication — Easy to talk to, take feedback without defensiveness.
• Problem-solving clarity — Explain their thinking, ask clarifying questions
• Hands-on experience using Claude Code or similar GenAI tool in day-to-day work.
