Job Description
Our client is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support financial reporting and operational accounting functions for a term of 9 months with the possibility of extension or conversion. This role is hybrid in office in the North York area.
You will be a key contributor to the full cycle of accounting, maintaining rigorous internal controls and providing the analytical support needed to drive business stability and growth. This is an ideal role for a CPA (or CPA candidate) who thrives in an autonomous, "do-it-all" environment and enjoys managing full-cycle accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full-Cycle Accounting:
Execute the month-end and year-end closing processes, preparing accurate journal entries, prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, and working papers.
- Payroll Administration:
Manage and process payroll for approximately 20 staff members (both hourly and salaried) using QuickBooks Online, and assist with any future payroll system transitions.
- Tax \& Compliance:
Prepare corporate tax compliance filings, including regular tax remittances and required financial filings.
- Audit Preparation:
Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for the annual external audit, assisting as a key point of contact for auditor inquiries.
- Intercompany \& Transaction Management:
Oversee intercompany accounting (handling approximately 8–10 intercompany transactions per year) and manage a monthly volume of 70–80 total transactions.
- Planning \& Analytics:
Assist in the development of budgets and business plans, with the opportunity to support future FP\&A (Financial Planning \& Analysis) initiatives as the role evolves.
- Reporting \& Collaboration:
Perform routine reconciliations to safeguard assets and ensure the continuous integrity of financial data within QuickBooks.
Qualifications \& Experience:
- CPA designation is preferred; candidates nearing completion (CPA candidates) will be considered.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a proven track record of handling end-to-end full-cycle reporting and managing accounting functions completely independently.
- Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online is required.
- A strong understanding of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises) is highly preferred and considered a definite asset.
- Experience managing payroll for both hourly and salaried employees is highly preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills are essential (Power Query, Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP).
