Job Description

The organization is a proudly independent, family-owned retail-based organization. This position balances both the daily accounting needs of the business in addition to providing monthly insights on financial performance against ongoing KPIs. The role is critical in ensuring timely processing of financial transactions related to sales, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking activities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial Record-keeping: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Prepare journal entries, supporting schedules for depreciation and amortization.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Process invoices and receive reports, manage vendor payments and EFTs, balances and vendor statement disputes.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in tracking inventory costs, including regular audits and reconciliations.
  • Ongoing Financial Tasks: bank deposits, reviewing daily cashier reports, bank and credit card reconciliations, and daily sales entries.
  • Payroll Support: support bi-weekly payroll preparation on our payroll platform.
  • Completion of monthly HST returns and other returns (WSIB, EHT)
  • Monthly Reporting: Support the preparation and delivery of monthly financial reporting, including variance analysis, trend identification, and operational insights.
  • KPI Support: Assist in the documentation, maintenance, and tracking of key financial and operational KPIs to support organizational performance measurement and business decision-making.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies, including tax regulations and reporting.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes and implement best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS + SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Education: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Math, Finance or a related field. A professional accounting designation is a definite asset.
  • Experience: 5+ years' relevant work experience in a similar capacity, preferably experienced in overseeing Finance function within a small/medium-sized business

including preparation of month end closings. Retail industry experience is an asset (from a Finance perspective).

  • Accounting Acumen: proven, strong knowledge of basic accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Communication Skills: frequent communication combined with active listening is key for building relationships with both internal and external teams and stakeholders.
  • Organizational Skills: managing multiple tasks simultaneously requires strong organizational skills for prioritizing tasks, executing last-minute / long-term tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Technology Proficiency: comfort leveraging technology and learning new technologies to streamline operations and enhance productivity. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Accounting Tools

: skilled in data entry using

accounting software tools, specifically QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.

Experience in POS systems an asset.

OTHER DETAILS:

  • Position is fully on-site, located in downtown Toronto
  • Salary range: $65,000 - $75,000
