Job Description
Kosmos Group is an engineering consulting firm specializing in electrical power generation, transmission, substation, and distribution. We support public and private utilities, consultants, and contractors across the U.S. and Canada, providing end\-to\-end engineering solutions, including conceptual design, feasibility study, detailed design, construction drawing package, field inspection, project closeout documentation, and more Kosmos Group is looking for a Civil Engineer to join our team in our Burnaby office. This position will report directly to the Transmission Line Department Manager. The successful candidate will primarily do Project work, including site design for utility infrastructure, including electrical substations, both overhead and underground transmission lines, pipelines, renewable facilities, and EV charging stations. Projects partner with utilities to design, plan, and improve the modern electric grid. This role is full\-time in the office for the first three months, then transitions to a hybrid schedule of four days in the office and one day from home. The primary duties include: • Review and authenticate functional and detailed designs of site preparation, stormwater management, site grading, access roads, and fencing for projects in the power industry. • Liaise with other discipline leads, project managers, vendors, contractors, and clients to facilitate a smooth flow of information for use in preparing preliminary and detailed designs and provide design clarifications and solutions during construction. • Apply knowledge of North American and international codes, regulations, and standards and have a good working knowledge of industry practices. • Provide technical leadership to the Civil team on projects. • Participate in design reviews on various projects and provide technical input. • Monitor project schedules and budgets within your area of responsibility and report status on a regular basis • Attend project meetings as required Required Credential and Skills Education Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET\-accredited program • A Professional Engineer licensure • Minimum five (5\) years of related experience Skills Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem\-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills. • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) • Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS\-CADD, RISA\-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs such as SAP200, STAAD Pro, LPile and MFAD. • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem\-solving skills. • Ability to travel.
