Job Profile Under general supervision, this position involves manual and clerical work in receiving, unpacking, storing, placing into stock and issuing of inventory (i.e. materials, tools and equipment).
This position involves working in a large warehouse and yard environment using a variety of equipment to receive and distribute inventory to support operations.This includes purchasing stock items as required and purchasing of non-stock items in accordance with the City's Materials Management Policy.
The incumbent may work under minimal supervision, have a large input into store layout, min-max stock levels and internal inventory control procedures. The incumbent is expected to develop a high degree of knowledge concerning the customer requirements and will be familiar with appropriate technical terminology. Employees are responsible for working safely and applying proper storekeeping methods in conducting their duties. Personnel at this level are required to perform certain clerical aspects of the store's function as well as operated a forklift and will be required to do strenuous manual labour for brief periods. The position requires the employee to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
As The Storekeeper 4, You Will
- Accept orders and withdraw material from stock; checking for required commodity, size and lot; post issues to stock record account in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain an inventory control system so as to prevent stock-outs from occurring while ensuring that inventory is maintained at a level consistent with economic objectives.
- In conjunction with customer management requirements, sets and maintains suitable min-max stock levels.
- Purchases stock and emergency non-stock items in accordance with procedures.
- Receives and unpacks goods.
- Check packing slips against stock received and records incoming materials.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and safe work practices.
- Conduct cycle counts and spot checks of commodities.
- Place material into stock.
- Prepare and ship materials.
- Load and unload material; locate material stores in the yard and warehouse.
- Required to operate loading equipment such as forklift; may aid in, or supervise receiving, sorting and storing stock.
- Perform general caretaking duties within the general store or yard area.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the classification as required.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- Grade 12 diploma, GED certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three (3) years' experience working with inventory in a warehouse type environment including experience with planning, purchasing, shipping, receiving, sourcing, storing and distributing goods.
- Possession of a Forklift Operator Certificate, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months.
- Experience working with the Purchasing and Inventory Control modules and systems.
- Knowledge of technical terminology required to conduct efficient business with clients.
- Knowledge of inventory systems and inventory principles.
- Knowledge of safe work practices/conditions.
- Ability to effectively organize work, supervise and train subordinate staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, execute and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
- Ability to carry out store-related clerical duties.
- Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer utilizing a variety of software at the basic level as required for the position (i.e. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Experience in performing mathematical computations required to order and account for material, tools and equipment.

- Must have Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
- Must be physically capable of performing duties of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs., working at various heights, working outdoors in all weather conditions, ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
