Staff Nurse

Job Overview The Staff Nurse plays a key role in delivering high-quality, safe, and compassionate patient care within the clinical team. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based nursing care, ensuring patients receive individualised treatment that promotes dignity, wellbeing, and positive health outcomes. The role contributes to the effective delivery of services by maintaining professional standards, supporting service improvement, and ensuring care is delivered in line with Trust policies, the NMC Code, and national best practice.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities The post holder will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to patients while supporting the wider multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities and tasks will include:

• Provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards, and evidence-based practice.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients, ensuring individual needs and preferences are recognised and respected.
• Administer medication and treatments safely, in line with local protocols, NICE guidance, and the NMC Code.
• Monitor and record patients’ physical and emotional wellbeing, escalating concerns or deterioration promptly to the appropriate clinician.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records using electronic and paper-based systems as required.
• Work collaboratively with doctors, allied health professionals, healthcare assistants, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to support coordinated care.
• Provide health education, advice, and emotional support to patients, relatives, and carers to promote recovery and wellbeing.
• Participate in handovers, ward rounds, team meetings, ward rounds, audits, and service improvement initiatives.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and therapeutic clinical environment, adhering to infection prevention and control procedures.
• Support the supervision and development of junior staff, students, and new team members where appropriate.
• Maintain professional competence through mandatory training, continuing professional development, and reflective practice

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, and compassionate nursing care, managing their own workload effectively, and prioritising patient needs to ensure timely and appropriate care. They will be expected to work independently within the scope of their practice as well as collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care. The role may involve working across different clinical areas and requires excellent communication, organisational, and clinical skills to support positive patient outcomes.

Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes, Essex.

Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement Outer London

(B\&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, Goodmayes)

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).
