Sr Devops Engineer

**Job Title: Sr. DevOps Engineer** **Department: IT** **Reports To: descopes Section Manager** **Job Summary:** The Senior DevOps Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and operating SDD’s enterprise Descopes platform across multi\-cloud and on\-prem environments (Sharjah Sovereign Cloud, VMware, OpenShift, Azure, Oracle). The role ensures high\-quality CI/CD pipelines, automation, configuration management, observability, and governance for more than 200 government entities. This engineer plays a key role in enabling secure, standardized, and scalable DevOps practices across IaaS, PaaS, and container platforms. The JD has been refined to better reflect current and upcoming needs, including responsibilities related to enabling, onboarding and supporting AI workloads on OpenShift (OpenShift AI), such as CPU/GPU enablement and hosting AI workloads. **Key Responsibilities:** **1\. DevSecOps Platform Engineering** * Design, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitLab (multi\-tenant CI/CD). * Implement and manage OpenShift clusters, operators, namespaces, and deployment pipelines. * Integrate GitLab with OpenShift, Quay/Harbor, Vault, Qualys, ACS, Fortify, and other DevSecOps tools. * Automate build, test, security scan, deploy, and release processes. **2\. Automation \& Configuration Management** * Develop Ansible roles/playbooks for platform automation. * Implement Infrastructure\-as\-Code (IaC) using Terraform for Azure, OpenShift, VMware, and other environments. * Automate environment provisioning, blue/green deployments, and cluster operations. **3\. Cloud, Container \& Infrastructure Enablement** * Support workloads deployment to VMware, AVS, OpenShift, Oracle cloud and Azure. * Manage Kubernetes objects, Helm charts, operators, secrets, and configuration. * Work with networking, storage, and security teams to design scalable environments. **4\. Monitoring, Observability \& Logging** * Implement monitoring using Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenShift Monitoring. * Configure central logging (ELK/Elastic), distributed tracing, and alerting. * Build dashboards for pipelines, application performance, and capacity. **5\. Security \& Compliance** * Enforce DevSecOps governance, secure coding, pipeline security gates, and policy\-based controls. * Configure SAST/DAST, container image scanning, secrets scanning, and dependency checkers. * Ensure compliance with SDD’s security frameworks, SCSC standards, and government data residency requirements. **6\. Collaboration \& Support** * Work closely with IT Digital, Infrastructure, Cloud Ops, IT Security, and Application teams. * Enable entities to onboard applications to the unified DevSecOps platform. * Provide L3 support for CI/CD, OpenShift, GitLab, and platform components. **Qualifications \& Experience:** * 6–10 years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Engineering roles. 1. Strong hands\-on experience with: GitLab CI/CD (advanced configurations, runners, multi\-tenant pipelines) 2. Kubernetes \& OpenShift (mandatory) 3. Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Operators 4. Docker/OCI containers, image registries 5. Linux administration and scripting (Bash/Python) 6. 7. Experience with Azure, VMware, or Oracle cloud is an advantage. 8. Experience deploying and operating production\-grade applications in Kubernetes. **Skills \& Competencies:** **Technical Skills** * Deep understanding of DevOps, GitOps, DevSecOps patterns. * Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, OpenShift, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines. * Excellent knowledge of IaC, automation, and configuration management. * Good understanding of networking, DNS, ingress controllers, HAProxy, Nginx, and service mesh. * Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools. **Soft Skills** * Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. * Excellent communication and documentation capabilities. * Ability to work in fast\-paced, multi\-team environments. * Strong teamwork and mentoring skills. **Required Certifications** (Preferred but not mandatory) * Red Hat OpenShift Administrator (EX280 / EX288\) * GitLab CI/CD Specialist * CKA / CKAD * Terraform Associate * Azure Administrator / DevOps Engineer Expert * RHCE / Linux certifications **Key Deliverables** * Fully automated CI/CD pipelines for all onboarding entities. * Documented deployment processes, IaC modules, and automation playbooks. * Secure multi\-tenant GitLab/OpenShift integration. * High\-availability pipelines with zero\-downtime deployment standards. * Dashboards for monitoring, logs, performance, and capacity. * Knowledge transfer to team members and entities. **KPIs** * CI/CD pipeline success rate (%). * Deployment frequency and lead time improvement. * Reduction in manual deployment tasks and automation coverage. * Number of onboarded entities using DevSecOps platform. * Compliance with SDD security \& DevSecOps governance. * Mean time to resolve (MTTR) DevOps platform issues. * SLA adherence for GitLab, OpenShift, and CI/CD services.
