**ROLE:** Forward Deployed Software Engineer **LOCATION:** Stockholm, Sweden \+ Operational Deployments **COMPENSATION:** Market Leading Salary \+ Equity TECHNE is supporting a leading defence technology startup in the search for a Forward Deployed Software Engineer to join their rapidly growing defence technology team, helping deploy sovereign European air defence systems operating in active operational environments globally. They are building next generation counter UAS interceptor platform designed to protect allied skies, borders, and infrastructure through high performance autonomous air defence systems. Their technology combines advanced software, radar integrations, autonomous guidance systems, and modern defence engineering to address one of Europe’s most urgent operational challenges: low cost drone warfare. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, field integration, defence technology, radar systems, and customer deployment. You will become the first Forward Deployed Software Engineer within the business, helping define how they integrate with customer systems across operational deployments. You will work directly with engineering leadership, customers, and field teams to deploy integrations that operate in real world defence environments, including active deployments in Ukraine. **Key Responsibilities:** * Lead customer side software integrations across radar and interceptor systems * Develop production grade Python and C\+\+ integrations against radar APIs and operational platforms * Deploy into customer environments to support live integrations and operational deployment activities * Own integrations end to end, from rapid field deployment through scalable production architecture * Bridge field engineering activities with Stockholm based software and platform teams * Support productionisation of customer integrations into reusable deployment frameworks * Help define the Forward Deployed Engineering function, processes, and future hiring roadmap * Collaborate across engineering, operational, and executive stakeholders within high tempo defence programmes **Required Experience:** * Strong production software engineering experience using Python and/or C\+\+ * Experience integrating hardware systems, sensors, APIs, or distributed operational systems * Comfortable operating within fast paced, customer facing engineering environments * Strong communication skills across technical and non technical stakeholder groups * Ability to move between rapid deployment work and long term scalable architecture development * Experience working within complex or mission critical engineering environments * Willingness to travel and work onsite. **Desirable Experience:** * Forward Deployed Engineering or Solutions Engineering backgrounds * Experience from companies such as Palantir, Anduril, OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar high performance environments * Radar, RF systems, MAVLink, ROS/ROS2, autopilot, or sensor fusion exposure * Rust development experience alongside Python or C\+\+ * Experience integrating classified, defence, or security sensitive systems * Trading systems or other production software environments operating under high pressure * Eligibility for NATO aligned security clearance processes **The Why?** * Opportunity to become the first Forward Deployed Software Engineer within a rapidly scaling European defence technology company * Direct operational impact within real world counter drone deployments * Exposure to live field integration activities supporting allied defence programmes * Opportunity to define the long term customer engineering and deployment models * High ownership role operating across engineering, operational deployment, and customer strategy This is not a traditional software engineering role.
