Job Description

At Tata Technologies, we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering, and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers.

Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting a Software Engineer to strengthen our team in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Responsibilities

Process Compliance \& Automotive Standards (ASPICE)

  • Define, implement, and audit software development processes to ensure compliance with Automotive SPICE or similar
  • Conduct SW Design Reviews and assessments across the engineering lifecycle
  • Collaborate with regular product development teams to bridge the gap between daily engineering work and formal compliance.

Functional Safety Assurance (ISO 26262)

  • Steering systems operate at the highest safety criticality, usually requiring ASIL-D compliance.
  • Review and ensure the traceability of safety requirements from the Item Definition and Hazard
  • Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) down to the Functional Safety Requirements (FSR) and
  • Technical Safety Requirements (TSR).
  • Audit the software architecture and implementation to ensure safety mechanisms (like memory partitioning, E2E protection, and watchdog management) are correctly verified.

Quality Gate Reviews \& Milestone Approvals

  • Establish and govern Quality Gates at key project milestones (e.g., prototype releases, sample phases like A, B, and C-samples, and Start of Production - SOP).
  • Review software release notes, anomaly/bug backlogs, and test coverage metrics to provide formal quality sign-offs for software deliveries

Test Strategy \& Verification Oversight

  • Ensure that the verification and validation (V\&V) strategy covers all testing levels: Unit Testing, Software Integration Testing, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) / Vehicle-level testing.
  • Monitor Code Coverage metrics.
  • Review and approve test plans and test reports to verify that all requirements, especially safety-critical steering behaviors, are fully validated.

Problem Solving \& Defect Management

  • Track open software anomalies, ensuring that containment actions and permanent corrective actions are implemented effectively by the development team.

Software Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain software for automotive steering systems, including Electric Power Assisted Steering System (EPAS), steer-by-wire, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) related to steering.

Requirements Analysis

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze software requirements for steering systems, ensuring alignment with overall vehicle design and performance goals.

System Integration

  • Integrate software components with hardware steering systems, ensuring seamless functionality and performance.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers to define software-hardware interfaces.

Testing and Validation

  • Develop and execute test plans for steering software validation, including unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing.
  • Utilize simulation tools and real-world testing environments to ensure software reliability and safety.

Documentation

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for software design, development processes, and user manuals related to steering systems.
  • Ensure documentation is up to date with industry standards and best practices.

Compliance and Standards

  • Ensure software development processes comply with automotive industry standards, such as ISO 26262 for functional safety and ASPICE.

Background / Experience

  • Experience with SW Function development and tunning.
  • Experience with SW development tools – MATLAB/Simulink, Carmaker.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are fundamental for identifying and resolving complex issues in software development.
  • Familiarity with testing principles and the ability to write and execute test cases.
  • Understanding different testing levels (unit testing, integration testing, system testing).
  • Skills in creating comprehensive test plans, defining testing strategies, and estimating testing efforts. Should be able to prioritize testing activities based on project requirements and deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of embedded C/C++ software architectures, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Protocol knowledge of CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet, alongside tools like Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, or PCAN.
  • Understanding of basic steering control loops, torque sensors, motor control algorithms, or Steer-by-Wire actuator concepts.
  • Familiarity with Git, GitHub, Gitlab, or PTC for software configuration control.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in software development within the automotive industry, specifically related to steering systems.
  • Experience with SW development processes such as ASPICE.
