**Overview** **JOB DESCRIPTION:** * JOB IDENTIFICATION **APTEAN JOB TABLE: Legal** **APTEAN JOB LEVEL: C** **APTEAN JOB TITLE: Senior Legal Counsel** **REPORTS TO** Full line: Raymond Chow **Dotted Line:** * GENERAL JOB SUMMARY As Legal Counsel provides expert legal advice and support to an organization, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, managing legal risks, drafting and reviewing contracts, and representing the company in legal matters. * SCOPE **Knowledge** : A Legal Counsel must have in\-depth knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and legal principles, along with the ability to interpret and apply them to the organization’s operations. **Supervision** : Typically, a Legal Counsel works under the direction of senior leadership or the General Counsel but may also supervise junior legal staff, ensuring the team's work aligns with legal standards and company policies. **Complexity** : The role involves handling complex legal matters, including contract negotiation, risk management, compliance issues, and potentially representing the organization in litigation. It requires critical thinking and the ability to navigate intricate legal challenges. * ORGANIZATION (Indicate the job positions reporting to this role) ****Full Line:**** * Job (\# of positions): 1 ****Dotted Line:**** * Job (\# of positions): 1 * PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **AI, Privacy and Data Protection Laws** * Ensure compliance with APAC and US privacy, and data protection lawsand AI laws, providing expert legal support on matters such as data mapping, data retention, DPIAs, SCCs and international data transfer processes. Strong understanding of global privacy and AI frameworks, as well as data privacy management tools (e.g. OneTrust) is desirable. * Assist with negotiation of privacy terms in agreements with customers, vendors and partners. * Support the integration of privacy by design principles into product development and business processes, collaborating with cross\-functional teams to ensure compliance with privacy and AI laws (in APAC and globally). * Monitor and analyze updates to privacy, AI and security laws in the APAC and US regions, providing timely updates and training to internal stakeholders. * Assist with conducting privacy and AI risk assessments and the development of mitigation strategies to address identified risks, supporting global business units with legal guidance on privacy and AI\-related matters. * Assist in the development and delivery of training programs to increase awareness and understanding of privacy and data protection obligations among employees. * Manage data subject\-rights requests and coordinate their resolution. * Advise on marketing and third\-party marketing initiatives involving e\-privacy compliance and data sharing. * Assist with identification and remediation of data incidents involving personal data. * Support for M\&A and post‑acquisition integration from a privacy perspective, including gap analysis, remediation, and alignment with group standards. * Effective time management skills are required for working on US/Europe hours and achieving global collaboration within a multi‑region legal team (APAC/US/EU), aligning regional guidance with global frameworks and governance models while managing local deviations and multi‑region initiatives. * Preferred certifications: recognized privacy and AI governance certifications such as IAPP CIPP/US, CIPP/A, AIGP or equivalent. **Contracts and Employment Law** * Strong knowledge and solid experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiation of technology contracts including but not limited to SaaS agreement, partner (channel/ reseller, VAR) agreement, vendor agreements and services agreement (SOW, M\&S Agreement, SLA). * Provide legal advice and support Human Resources for implementing internal HR policies and governances. * Assist Human Resources and ensure compliance of local employment laws and regulations and Aptean employment policies. * JOB SPECIFICATIONS ****Preferred Qualifications:**** * A qualified lawyer with a law degree in India jurisdiction * 5\-8 years post qualification with minimum 5 years relevant privacy and security law experience within in\-house environment. * Draft, review and negotiate contractor, employment, privacy data agreements in multiple discipline * Experience working with an Information Security team in a software company environment and supporting them with implementing technical and administrative controls for safeguarding personal data. **DISCLAIMER** *The preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
