Job Description
A leading Packaging organisation is currently recruiting for a Commercial Director / Sales Director to lead and develop the commercial and sales strategy of the business with a strong focus on growth through new business development. The Commercial Director will be responsible for driving revenue, expanding market share, and building strong customer relationships.
\*\* Packaging manufacturing experience is essential for this role
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the role will evolve over time, potentially expanding into a broader organisational leadership remit similar to a Managing Director once the postholder is fully established. This role will be operational / hands on as well as strategic.
The Commercial Director is primarily responsible for delivering sustainable revenue growth and establishing a high‑performing commercial function. Their key responsibilities include setting commercial strategy, leading the sales team, identifying new markets, and ensuring sales operations align with organisational objectives.
**Commercial Director / Sales Director responsibilities include:**
* Lead, motivate, and develop the sales and commercial team to achieve revenue targets.
* Provide clear direction and coaching to ensure excellent performance and capability growth.
* Identify opportunities for innovation and operational improvement.
* Proactively challenge existing practices, implement improvements, and drive positive change across the commercial function and the wider organisation.
* Set objectives aligned with company strategic priorities and regularly review performance.
* Build strong relationships with new and existing customers, acting as a senior point of escalation where required.
* Ensure high levels of communication, ensuring the sales team understands business priorities, performance expectations, and customer requirements.
* Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and customer focus.
* Develop and implement the company’s commercial and sales strategy to drive revenue growth.
* Identify new business opportunities, emerging markets, and strategic partnerships to expand the company’s reach.
* Lead the development of pricing strategies, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
* Monitor market trends, customer behaviour, and competitor activity to inform decision‑making.
* Work closely with the CEO and SLT to align commercial strategy with wider business goals.
* Champion continuous improvement in commercial processes, systems, and customer engagement.
* Work collaboratively with manufacturing, finance, operations, and planning teams to ensure effective end‑to‑end customer experience.
* Support development of annual budgets and revenue forecasts.
* Review commercial performance through KPIs, sales metrics, customer feedback, and margin analysis.
* Ensure the company brand, reputation, and customer service standards are promoted and upheld.
* Contribute to organisational culture, leadership behaviours, and cross‑functional collaboration.
* Over time, take on broader operational or company‑wide responsibilities as the role evolves, potentially stepping into a Managing‑Director‑level remit.
You will be a Sales Director / Commercial Director with experience in an SME Packaging / manufacturing environment.
