Interim Closedown Accountant

**Local Authority \| 6\-Month Contract \| Inside IR35 (flexible dependent on client)** We are currently supporting a Local Authority to appoint an experienced **Interim Closedown Accountant** on an initial **6\-month contract** to support a critical year\-end period. This is a pivotal role within the finance team, focused on ensuring a smooth and compliant financial close, working closely with senior finance leaders and auditors. Key Responsibilities * Lead and coordinate the **year\-end closedown process** * Prepare and review **Statement of Accounts** in line with CIPFA/LASAAC requirements * Ensure full compliance with **statutory reporting deadlines** * Liaise with **external auditors** , responding to queries and providing supporting evidence * Support the completion of **working papers and reconciliations** * Provide technical accounting advice across the finance function * Identify and resolve issues impacting delivery of the closedown timetable About You * Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent) * Proven experience delivering **closedown within a Local Authority setting** * Strong knowledge of **Local Government accounting standards and regulations** * Demonstrable experience producing or supporting the **Statement of Accounts** * Confident working in high\-pressure environments with tight deadlines * Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with auditors Additional Details * 6\-month initial contract with potential to extend * Hybrid working arrangements available * Immediate or short\-notice availability preferred This is an excellent opportunity to support a council during a critical period and play a key role in delivering a compliant and efficient financial close.
