Our client National Bank of Pakistan is looking for a Head of Legal (EVP / SEVP) in Karachi

In line with our strategy, the Bank is looking for talented, dedicated and experienced professional(s) for the following position in the area of Legal based at Karachi.

The individuals who fulfill the below basic-eligibility criteria may apply for the following position:

Head of Legal (EVP / SEVP)

Reporting to:

President \& CEO

Age:

Maximum 57 years on the last date of submission of application

Educational /Professional Qualification:

  • Minimum LLB or equivalent from a local or international university / college /

institute recognized by HEC of Pakistan

  • Candidates having LLM degree and / or any other relevant professional

certification(s) will be preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of working experience in corporate law, gained through reputable law firms and / or large-scale organizations, including at least 7 years in a senior legal leadership and / or strategic advisory role
  • Preference will be given to the candidates having:
  • Membership of the Bar
  • Extensive experience in managing banking, financial services, litigation, and regulatory affairs
  • International legal experience, including working with and / or instructing overseas counsel
  • Experience in managing legal matters involving multiple jurisdictions and coordinating with local and foreign counsel
  • Sound knowledge of and practical experience in employment and labor laws

Other Skills / Expertise / Knowledge Required:

  • Resourcefulness, commercial awareness and sound business judgment
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize and to respond to business issues with workable

solutions under critical time pressure

  • Ability to manage workload handling multiple complex cases simultaneously

without compromising on timelessness and effectiveness

  • Ability to anticipate potential legal issues
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills and the ability to lead

negotiations and collaboration with stakeholders

  • Focused on close detail and the ability to distil information rapidly in order to

identify and advise upon key legal and business issues

  • Expertise in drafting all nature of contracts / agreement / legal documents and

interpretation of statutes

  • Expertise in dealing with property related issues
  • Ability to deal with high power Committees, Government functionaries, Ministries

and Regulators

Outline of Main Duties / Responsibilities

:

  • To provide ongoing legal advice and support to NBP in relation to broad range of

issues and disputes of varying significance and complexity

  • To efficiently manage the associated legal, regulatory, financial risks as well as

litigation

  • To ensure legal and regulatory conformance in documentation while also adhering to Bank's Policies
  • To work on a broad range of high quality and challenging assignments as part of

the legal team responsible for legal and transaction management

  • To actively engage with business, product and support functions
  • To provide comprehensive legal advice and support on transaction structuring and

documentation

  • To provide legal support and oversight on all regulatory matters, employment

issues, litigation and other contentious and non-contentious matters, property

related disputes

  • To deal matters related to external counsels
  • To keep abreast with regulatory and law updates
  • To manage legal costs and external legal fees
  • To review standard documentation against Policies and Procedures
  • To attend and ensure resolution / closure of all HR related litigation matters

Employment Type:

The employment will be on contractual basis for three years which may be renewed ondiscretion of the Management. Selected candidates will be offered compensationpackage and other benefits as per Banks Policy / rules.
