We are now looking for a
**Deputy General Manager**
to join
**The Black Pug**
on a
**12\-month maternity cover contract**
, with potential for a permanent opportunity.
***The Role.***
This is a full\-time, on\-site position where you will play a key role in the day\-to\-day running of the business. As part of a small independent company, you’ll be heavily involved in decision\-making, team development, and driving the overall success of the pub.
You’ll lead from the front, bringing strong charisma, high energy, and a genuine passion for hospitality to maintain standards, support your team, and deliver an exceptional guest experience.
***Key responsibilities***
* Oversee daily operations, ensuring smooth and efficient service
* Lead, motivate, and develop the team, maintaining a positive workplace culture
* Deliver outstanding customer service and uphold brand standards
* Manage cellar operations, stock control, and ordering
* Control labour and rota planning in line with business needs
* Ensure full compliance with Health \& Safety, food hygiene, and EHO standards
* Train staff across service, compliance, and operational procedures
* Support budgeting, stock management, and overall P\&L performance
* Plan and deliver events, promotions, and initiatives to drive sales and engagement
* Maintain organisation of files, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation
***What we're looking for***
* Strong experience in hospitality leadership and team management
* Solid understanding of pub operations, including cellar management and stock control
* Excellent customer service skills and a hands\-on leadership style
* High energy, strong personality, and the ability to lead from the front
* Confident communicator across all levels
* Organised, proactive, and able to perform under pressure
* Good understanding of labour control and business performance
* Knowledge of Health \& Safety and compliance regulations
* Flexible availability including evenings and weekends
**Desirable:**
* Level 2 Food Hygiene
* Personal Licence
* Cellar management experience
* UK driving licence
