Job Description
**About The Company** Highwood Emissions Management is dedicated to transforming industrial emissions transparency into a standard practice within the energy sector. Since its inception in 2020, the company has rapidly established itself as a leader in emissions management by leveraging a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and policy experts. Highwood has successfully helped energy producers account for approximately 10% of the global oil and gas output, significantly reducing methane and carbon emissions, and achieving prestigious certifications such as the OGMP 2\.0 Gold Standard. The organization operates with a startup mindset, emphasizing rapid experimentation, continuous learning, and measurable impact. Its culture fosters respect, curiosity, and a commitment to tackling complex climate challenges through innovative solutions. Highwood offers a dynamic environment where professional growth, real\-world impact, and equity participation are integral to the employee experience. The company values diversity and inclusivity, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds regardless of race, gender, or other characteristics, and encourages perspectives that enrich its mission. **About The Role** The Senior Data Scientist at Highwood will play a pivotal role in building and refining the data foundations crucial for the company’s Emission Intelligence Platform (EIP). This role involves working with large volumes of complex, often messy operational and emissions data from various vendors and operators in the oil and gas industry. The primary focus is on organizing, standardizing, and reconciling disparate datasets to produce reliable, defensible insights that support methane quantification, reconciliation, and uncertainty analysis. The Senior Data Scientist will serve as a technical leader, combining deep analytical expertise with practical knowledge of oil and gas operations to develop robust data frameworks and workflows. This position requires hands\-on involvement in data cleansing, standardization, and modeling, as well as translating technical findings into clear explanations for both internal teams and external clients. The role offers an exciting opportunity to influence industry standards for methane emissions reporting and to contribute to innovative solutions that support decarbonization efforts. The candidate will collaborate closely with junior analysts, product teams, and leadership, shaping research initiatives and ensuring scientific rigor across projects. The role reports directly to the Director of R\&D and involves flexible scheduling aligned with regular office hours, with an emphasis on proactive communication and teamwork. **Qualifications** * Master’s degree or higher in Remote Sensing, Statistics, Energy Systems Modelling, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. * Proven experience working with complex, messy datasets and transforming them into structured, usable data formats. * Strong background in applying empirical data to solve technical problems within scientific or analytical contexts. * In\-depth knowledge of oil and gas operations, including methane measurement, emissions inventories, and production systems. * Proficiency in Python, with experience in data manipulation and analysis libraries such as Pandas and NumPy. * Experience in client\-facing roles, technical workshops, or external stakeholder engagement. * Experience mentoring junior analysts or providing technical leadership is an asset. * Knowledge of methane measurement technologies, reconciliation, or uncertainty analysis is advantageous. * Strong problem\-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities, propose practical solutions, and handle challenges thoughtfully. * Attention to detail, especially when reviewing emissions data and analytical outputs. * Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast\-paced environment. **Responsibilities** * Work with large and diverse datasets related to methane emissions, operational activities, and measurement technologies. * Lead efforts in data cleansing, standardization, and reconciliation to create consistent and reliable datasets for analysis. * Design and implement data frameworks that articulate how various data sources relate within the context of oil and gas operations. * Develop Python workflows and prototypes to transform raw, unstructured data into structured, analyzable formats. * Apply statistical methods and sound technical judgment to address missing data, conflicting signals, and uncertainty in datasets. * Translate complex technical data into clear explanations for internal teams and external clients, ensuring alignment and understanding. * Lead scientific problem\-solving in methane quantification, reconciliation, and uncertainty estimation, setting industry standards. * Collaborate with the R\&D team to prototype and refine innovative measurement\-informed inventory approaches. * Mentor junior analysts, review technical approaches, and ensure high\-quality outputs across projects. * Stay current with scientific literature, measurement technologies, and policy developments related to methane emissions. * Represent Highwood at conferences, webinars, and external technical discussions, showcasing thought leadership. * Support strategic research initiatives, prioritizing projects based on product needs, client value, and scientific rigor. **Benefits** * Comprehensive benefits package including dental, vision, prescription drugs, massage, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, and more, valued at over $1,500 annually. * Coverage extends to spouse and children, supporting family health and well\-being. * Annual allowance of $5,000 to support non\-essential educational pursuits of personal interest. * Participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), allowing employees to share in the company's success as partial owners. * Encouragement of work\-life balance through generous vacation policies and flexible scheduling. * A collaborative and inclusive work environment that values diversity, innovation, and professional development. * The opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry, contributing to impactful climate solutions. Equal Opportunity Highwood Emissions Management is an equal opportunity workplace and is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, veteran status, or any other basis protected by federal, state, or local law.
