Job Description
**Overview** Container haulage is won and lost on the phone, on the quote, and on the follow\-through. We are a Ipswich\-based haulier operating out of Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton, and we are looking for someone with the right instincts and attitude to grow into a genuinely commercial customer service role. You do not need to have worked in haulage before. You do need to be sharp, switched\-on, and hungry to learn a business where every conversation has a commercial edge. **What You’ll Be Doing** * Handling inbound enquiries from customers across phone and email — bookings, pricing, availability, and general queries — professionally and promptly. * Learning to quote container haulage movements with guidance, and building towards doing so independently with full commercial awareness. * Working closely with our planning and transport team to confirm feasibility and keep customers informed at every stage. * Building relationships with freight forwarders, shipping lines and direct importers — becoming a reliable, trusted point of contact. * Keeping our TMS, job records and customer communications accurate and up to date. * Spotting and flagging commercial opportunities as your knowledge grows, additional lanes, repeat bookings, or account development leads. * Handling service issues calmly and professionally, keeping customers informed rather than avoiding the conversation. * Sending customer updates on their deliveries. **What We’re Looking For** * Some exposure to a customer\-facing or commercial environment — transport, logistics, freight, or a fast\-paced service industry is useful, but not essential. * A communicator. You’re confident on the phone, clear in writing, and comfortable holding a conversation with experienced professionals. * Organised and reliable. You follow things through, document what you’ve done, and don’t let things fall through the gaps. * Calm when it gets busy. Port logistics moves fast — you need to be someone who focuses under pressure, not freezes. * Genuinely ambitious.
