Shaffie Law Professional Corporation is a Toronto criminal defence firm representing clients charged with criminal and quasi\-criminal offences across the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario. Based in the heart of St. Lawrence Market, Toronto, the firm focuses on high\-stakes intimate partner violence matters and complex drug cases. We pride ourselves on the calibre of our defence work and the trust our clients place in us at the most serious moments of their lives. **The Role** We are seeking an Associate Criminal Defence Lawyer to join the firm on a full\-time, hybrid basis. The successful candidate will carry their own docket under intensive mentorship and close file supervision, appear regularly in bail, set\-date, pretrial, and trial courts, and work directly with the principal on complex matters including Charter applications, s. 276/278 motions, and contested trials. The firm is actively expanding its core areas of practice over the coming year. The right associate will have meaningful input into that growth and substantial opportunity to develop their own practice within the firm. **Compensation and Benefits** * Base salary of $65,000 to $110,000, commensurate with experience and ability to advance matters independently * Bonus and progressive commission structures available on top of base * Guaranteed salary increase at the twelve\-month mark * Firm\-paid LawPRO and Law Society of Ontario licensing fees * Paid vacation and CPD stipend * Hybrid working arrangement * A beautifully appointed office in the heart of historic downtown Toronto * Intensive mentorship and close file supervision * Long\-term growth potential, including the opportunity to build a book of business within the firm **Qualifications** * Call to the Bar of Ontario and in good standing * One to three years of post\-call experience in criminal defence preferred; exceptional candidates outside that range are welcome to apply * Demonstrated competence in bail hearings, guilty pleas, and summary trials, with a willingness to grow into complex matters * Strong written and oral advocacy, including the ability to draft factums, Charter applications, and trial submissions independently * Sound judgment, professionalism, and genuine care for clients * Capacity to meet the demands of a busy criminal practice, including occasional evening and weekend work when client matters require it **To Apply** Please send a cover letter, CV, and writing sample (factum, memo, or written submissions) to shayan@shaffielaw.ca.
