The

Accounting Manager/Assistant Financial Controller

will serve as a key member of the Finance team supporting a fast-paced, PE-backed growth environment. This role is responsible for assisting the Group Financial Controller in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, supporting audit and compliance requirements, and executing day-to-day accounting operations across the business.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role without direct people management responsibility. The position will partner closely with the Controller and broader finance team to support month-end close, statutory compliance, reporting, FP\&A initiatives, process improvements, and operational scalability.

The ideal candidate is a proactive finance professional who can balance execution with continuous improvement.

Functional Responsibilities:

Financial Management \& Reporting

  • Support preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reporting packages, and close deliverables.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities in partnership with FP\&A and leadership teams.
  • Support executive, board, lender, and PE reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, financial policies, and reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, financial policies, and regulatory requirements.

Accounting Operations \& Close Management

  • Support execution of month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure timely completion of journal entries, accruals, prepaids, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Oversee and support accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll accounting, cash management, and balance sheet controls.
  • Investigate accounting fluctuations and unusual transactions to ensure reporting accuracy.

Audit, Compliance, \& Regulatory Reporting

  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and service providers to support audits and statutory filing requirements.
  • Prepare audit schedules, manage PBC requests, and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Support and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and finance procedures.
  • Prepare and/or review UK VAT returns and support UK statutory reporting, Companies House filings, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Support tax and payroll-related schedules and coordinate indirect tax and compliance requirements, including Australian tax and filing support where applicable.

Cross-Functional \& International Finance Support

  • Partner with Sales, Operations, Product, and Customer teams to support billing, revenue recognition, cost allocation, and subscription-based financial processes.
  • Support multi-entity, multi-currency, intercompany accounting, and consolidation activities.
  • Coordinate with international finance teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Act as a finance business partner and provide support across operational and strategic initiatives.

Process Improvement \& Finance Transformation

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, automation, and standardization across finance operations.
  • Support ERP optimization and partner with IT and business stakeholders to streamline accounting processes.
  • Develop scalable procedures, controls, and documentation to support continued business growth.
  • Lead or support transformation initiatives and special projects as assigned.

Team Support

  • Act as a senior accounting resource and support team execution through collaboration, prioritization, and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide coverage and operational support across finance activities as business needs evolve.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably within a PE-backed, SaaS, subscription-based, or growth-oriented environment; education technology experience is a plus.
  • Experience supporting month-end close, financial reporting, audit, statutory compliance, and accounting operations.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with practical application of US GAAP and IFRS principles.
  • Experience with UK VAT, statutory reporting, regulatory filings, and tax compliance activities; Australian tax and filing experience preferred.
  • Experience operating in international, multi-entity and multi-currency environments, including intercompany accounting and consolidation support.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating workstreams, managing priorities, and supporting team execution; formal people management experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong balance sheet reconciliation and financial controls experience.
  • Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems; NetSuite experience required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial analysis capabilities.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, automation initiatives, ERP optimization, and scalable finance operations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and business partnering skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities.
