Accountant

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their finance team in Calgary. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven accounting professional who is enrolled in the CPA program and working toward designation, looking to grow within a stable, collaborative team and take on increasing responsibility over the next 2-3 years.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
• Assist with the preparation of working papers and support the external audit process
• Prepare variance analysis and management reporting
• Support budgeting and forecasting cycles
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and relevant regulatory requirements
• Assist with tax filings and liaise with external tax advisors as needed
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff
• Identify and implement process improvements within the accounting function
• Participate in ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as required

Ideal Profile

• 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within oil and gas or a related industry
• Currently enrolled in the CPA program, with an anticipated designation within the next 2-3 years
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end/year-end close processes
• Solid knowledge of ASPE and/or IFRS
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar) considered an asset
• Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments
