Job Description
Our client, a respected international defence company with a downtown Ottawa office, is looking to add a permanent **Accountant** to their team as they prepare for a retirement transition. The **Accountant** plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This position is responsible for processing all purchase invoices, journal entries, and payments within the ERP system, ensuring that suppliers and employee expense claims are paid promptly and in compliance with corporate governance requirements. The role also includes developing JET reports to support both financial and operational reporting needs, as well as serving as a subject matter expert for Business Central. **Duties may include, but are not limited to:** * Manage the end‑to‑end processing and payment of all supplier invoices and employee expense claims * Ensure accurate allocation of cost codes and strict adherence to the Delegation of Authority (DoA) * Prepare and post all ERP journal entries * Support month‑end close activities, including MMR submission, completion of all balance sheet reconciliations, and investigation and resolution of discrepancies * Prepare and file sales tax and excise tax remittances * Perform banking functions such as preparing multi‑currency payments, monitoring cash positions, initiating bank transfers, completing bank reconciliations, and contributing to cash‑flow forecasting * Maintain and update the fixed asset register * Produce Order Intake, CSR, and SSR supporting documentation * Serve as the NAV/Business Central subject‑matter expert, including testing and implementing new processes or system upgrades, troubleshooting issues, and providing user support * Design and develop JET reports to enhance reporting accuracy, identify errors, and improve data visibility * Other duties as assigned **Required skills and qualifications:** * Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounts payable and bank account/cash management * Accounting diploma, certificate, or degree required, with strong knowledge of debits and credits (CPA not required) * Must be able to obtain **Reliability** security clearance at minimum **; Secret** clearance preferred but not mandatory * Proficiency with ERP systems, specifically Business Central (strong asset) * Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel * Experience with JET reporting considered an asset * Proven ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team * Experience in the defence industry considered an asset * Trustworthy, highly organized, and able to manage time and priorities effectively * Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of processes and deliverables * Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues and address them proactively **Benefits and perks:** * Health and dental benefits after probation – 100% * 4 weeks’ vacation, 5 after 2 years * Annual bonus * 5 paid sick days, 15 after 1 year * Downtown \- Bus accessible * RRSP Match * Local and stable business – over 30 years The wage for this position ranges from **$75,000 \- $85,000 per year** based on experience and qualifications.
