**Job Summary And Requirements**
**This is to fill 1 – permanent position, working 75 hours bi\-weekly.**
The Department of Justice provides supportive and dynamic work environments comprised of teams of professionals who are committed to making a difference in the lives of Yukoners.
Reporting to the Director \- Legal Services (“Director”), the Senior Counsel \- Solicitors is responsible for handling a high volume and wide range of assignments, including complex legal matters, and providing mentorship, guidance and coaching to staff working within Legal Services Branch (“LSB”) . This position includes providing senior legal advice and services to Government of Yukon departments, corporations and elected officials, especially related to sensitive, significant, or high\-profile matters.
The Senior Counsel \- Solicitors is a key member of the Senior Management Team (ADM, Director, Managers, and Senior Counsel) and participates in the development and implementation of the Department’s strategic and operations plans, policies, and programs.

**Essential Qualifications**
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
* Common Law Degree \- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD).
* Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Yukon or eligibility for admission to the Law Society of Yukon
* Substantial experience in legal practice (e.g. 15 years or more). Broad based level of knowledge in different legal areas with specialization in some areas is an asset.
* Significant experience and the demonstrated ability to take on high volume and complex legal requests in a variety of areas.
* Demonstrated experience working in a team setting, coaching and mentoring staff and interns.
* Experience within or for government legal services would be considered an asset.
Candidates who have training and considerable experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

* Strong interpersonal skills are also necessary to mentor junior lawyers and foster collaboration within the team.
**Conditions of employment**
* Either a member in good standing with the Law Society of Yukon or eligibility for admission to the Law Society of Yukon.
**Job Requirements**
* Travel within and outside of Yukon
* Work evenings and weekends as required
