The post holder is responsible for delivering direct clinical care to individual patients and groups within their designated area. This includes assessing care needs and planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care from admission through to discharge. Following an agreed development period, the post holder will also take charge of the ward when required and assume responsibility for staff and resources in the absence of the ward manager or deputy. They will be expected to supervise junior staff and support the teaching of both qualified and unqualified colleagues, including pre‑ and post‑registration students. For clinical development or service needs, the post holder will rotate through all ward areas within the Division of Surgery and Anaesthetics, including the admission and discharge facility. The role requires participation in a full 24‑hour shift pattern.
