Job Description
The Manager of HR \& Employee Development is responsible for the leadership and administration of the organization’s human resources operations, ensuring effective, consistent, and compliant people practices across a large automotive distribution company operating locations throughout Canada. This role provides guidance to managers and employees on employment matters while maintaining structured and defensible HR processes that support the operational needs of a multi\-province distribution environment. The Manager of HR \& Employee Development leads the organization’s payroll and benefits administration through the supervision of the Payroll \& Benefits Administrator, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, employee benefits are administered effectively, and related practices align with internal controls and regulatory requirements. Working closely with senior leadership, the Manager of HR \& Employee Development supports workforce planning, employee relations, recruitment, and performance management initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable employment legislation and company policies across multiple Canadian jurisdictions. **Core Competencies** **Employee Relations \& HR Advisory** * Serve as the primary HR advisor to managers on employee relations matters including performance management, disciplinary processes, workplace conflict, and employee concerns. * Provide practical guidance to leaders on managing employee performance, attendance issues, and workplace conduct. * Support and conduct workplace investigations when required, ensuring matters are addressed fairly and documented appropriately. * Ensure employment decisions are consistent, well\-documented, and compliant with employment standards and human rights legislation. * Maintain a professional and confidential approach when handling sensitive employee matters. **Recruitment \& Onboarding** * Oversee recruitment processes including job postings, interview coordination, and offer preparation. * Manage onboarding processes to ensure new employees are integrated effectively into the organization. * Support workforce planning and hiring needs in collaboration with department leaders. **HR Operations \& Compliance** * Maintain and administer HR policies, procedures, and employee documentation. * Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial employment legislation across all jurisdictions in which the company, including Employment Standards, Human Rights, Occupational Health \& Safety, and Workers’ Compensation requirements across Canada. * Support internal HR processes including employee records management, employment agreements, and policy updates. **Payroll \& Benefits** * Responsible for the Payroll \& Benefits Administrator and provide direction on payroll processing, benefits administration, and related compliance requirements. * Review payroll outputs and compensation changes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements. * Ensure payroll practices comply with CRA regulations, statutory deductions, taxable benefits requirements, and year\-end reporting obligations. * Look after the administration of employee benefits programs and act as an escalation point for complex benefits matters. * Work closely with Finance to ensure payroll reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls are maintained. **Performance Management \& Development** * Support managers with the performance management process, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development planning. * Provide guidance and coaching to supervisors and managers on effective people management practices, including performance management, conflict resolution, and workplace conduct. * Assist with initiatives that promote employee engagement, accountability, and a positive workplace culture. **HR Programs \& Culture** * Support initiatives that promote a positive workplace culture and employee engagement. * Assist with internal communications related to HR programs, policies, and employee updates. **HR Systems \& Process Improvement** * Maintain HR systems and processes to ensure efficient administration of HR programs and employee records. * Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, documentation, and internal controls. * Support and provide reporting related to HR metrics including headcount, turnover, and workforce trends. **Requirements** * 5–8 years of progressive experience in Human Resources * Experience overseeing payroll administration or working closely with payroll operations * Post\-secondary education in HR, Business Administration, or a related field * CPHR designation (or working toward designation) considered an asset * Strong knowledge of Canadian employment standards and HR best practices * Extensive Dayforce experience and in various Payroll and HR modules, ADP an asset * Strong organizational, communication, and problem\-solving skills * Periodic travel (approximately 20–30 business days annually) to support HR initiatives and operational needs across North America * Merger and acquisition experience an asset **What We Offer** * This role comes with a competitive compensation package and benefits that reflect the value of the work and the impact of the role. * Salary: $110,000 –$140,000, depending on experience * Benefits: Extended Health \& Dental — 100% company paid * Retirement Savings: 4% employer RRSP matching program * Professional Development: Coverage for professional dues * Phone allowance or company phone provided * Corporate Perks Program – exclusive discounts across various brands * Paid vacation * Seven paid sick days
