**Director, Legal Counsel** **Location:** Remote (United States) **Work Model:** Remote \| Full\-time **Travel:** Up to 10% annually **Estimated Salary Range:** $128,000 – $148,000 annually (location\-based) **Role Summary** The Director, Legal Counsel is a senior individual contributor within the Legal Department, providing strategic legal guidance across a broad range of corporate, programmatic, and operational matters. This role focuses on contract drafting and negotiation, labor and employment counseling, risk management, and regulatory compliance in a fast\-paced, mission\-driven environment. This position reports to a Senior Director, Corporate Counsel and does not have direct reports. Two openings exist, each supporting different portfolios across programs, operations, policy, finance, real estate, fundraising, and communications. **Key Responsibilities** **Legal Advisory \& Risk Management** * Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of corporate and commercial agreements, including confidentiality, consulting, SaaS, lease, and settlement agreements * Advise internal stakeholders on legal risk, compliance, and strategic program development * Support compliant and scalable expansion into new initiatives and operational areas * Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws, as well as internal policies * Partner closely with People/HR teams on labor and employment matters * Conduct legal research and analysis across diverse substantive and procedural issues **Collaboration \& Stakeholder Support** * Work cross\-functionally on complex, multidisciplinary projects * Collaborate with internal legal colleagues to ensure consistent, high\-quality legal guidance * Manage and coordinate with outside counsel on litigation, employment, and intellectual property matters * Educate staff through trainings on legal risks and best practices relevant to their work **Qualifications** **Required** * Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA\-accredited U.S. law school * Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction * Minimum of 4 years of legal practice experience (law firm and/or in\-house) * Proven experience drafting and negotiating contracts and agreements * Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to manage confidential matters * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Strong organizational, analytical, and prioritization skills **Preferred** * In\-house corporate legal experience (for\-profit or nonprofit) * Knowledge of nonprofit corporate law * 3\+ years of experience supporting real estate, finance, education, or transportation matters * Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and functions * Demonstrated commitment to mission\-driven or public\-interest work **Compensation \& Benefits** * Competitive salary based on geographic cost\-of\-labor zones * Comprehensive health coverage (medical, employer\-paid dental, optional vision) * Generous retirement plan with employer contributions * Flexible paid time off, paid parental leave, and company holidays * Robust professional development, training, and mentorship opportunities **Work Environment** This is a fully remote role open to eligible candidates based anywhere in the United States.
