**Description** --------------- The Department of Human Resources at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Human Resources Generalist position. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing administrative and consultation services to human resources policies and procedures for staff employees. The Human Resources Generalist will provide guidance and assistance with recruitment, appointment and advancement, compensation and salary administration, visa procurement, payroll, training and development, and termination for Staff Employment. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Human Resources, this position serves as the designated HR point of contact for each college regarding personnel actions, policies, and procedures pertaining to staff. **Examples of Duties** ---------------------- * Reviews and conduct and analysis of all staff personnel action forms. Ensures that actions are initiated timely for processing. * Maintains and monitors staff personnel records for proper documents and credentials. * Provides guidance and assistance with the staff search process including assisting with the requisition process, advertising the position, and search committee training. * Assists and provides guidance with transition activities for new staff, such as post\-offer visits, hiring and onboarding, visa procurement, and relocation. * Oversee new staff orientation. * Assists in the gathering, reporting, and analysis of data related to staff hiring and diversity. * Communicate with Payroll to ensure accurate payroll processing for staff. * Counsels Administrators and staff as needed, concerning moderate to complex work\-related problems, particularly those pertaining to appointments, hiring, onboarding, and staff offer terms (i.e. salary, relocation, tenure). * Aids and support with staff grievances. * Aids and support with the staff promotion process. * Conduct investigations and prepare reports on employee complaints and conflicts. * Perform other duties as assigned. **Typical Qualifications** -------------------------- * Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Business Administration or closely related field, and three (3\) years of directly related experience. * Experience assisting in appointments and onboarding. * Excellent critical thinking skills to address complex issues and present nuanced analyses within policy parameters. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Excellent attention to detail. * Ability to maintain professional work relations with internal and external constituents. * Experience in writing and/or editing fact\-based material. * Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment. * Ability to present information effectively to internal and external audiences. * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. * Ability to produce accurate reports under time pressure when needed. * Ability to proofread, identify significant details, verify researched data, and locate information in electronic and published sources. **Supplemental Information** ---------------------------- ***Disclaimer*** *The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed by people assigned to this position.
