Job Description
Overview Miranda Motors is seeking a hands\-on **Financial Controller** to take ownership of the company’s accounting and financial reporting. Miranda Motors operates as a commercial truck dealership and fleet services company, providing used truck sales along with services such as vehicle painting, detailing, upfitting, and fleet repair. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing the day\-to\-day accounting functions of the business, and producing reliable financial reporting for management. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working in an operational environment and is comfortable taking full ownership of the accounting process. This position will replace internal accounting responsibilities currently handled by ownership and will serve as the **primary person responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records.** This is a **hands\-on role** where the Controller will actively manage the company’s accounting records and reporting processes. ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations * Oversee and maintain the company’s accounting records and general ledger. * Manage day\-to\-day accounting activities including **accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting**. * Review and approve journal entries and ensure transactions are recorded properly. Financial Reporting * Prepare **monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements**. * Manage the **month\-end close process**. * Provide financial reports and analysis to ownership to help evaluate business performance. Revenue \& Job Tracking * Monitor accounting related to **vehicle sales, service work, and fleet services**. * Ensure revenue and cost tracking for jobs such as **painting, detailing, upfitting, and repairs** is properly recorded. * Assist in improving visibility into job profitability and service margins. Cash Management * Monitor company cash balances and assist with **cash flow management**. * Coordinate payment processes and vendor management. Internal Controls * Implement and maintain accounting procedures to ensure financial accuracy. * Improve processes related to invoicing, purchasing, and expense tracking. CPA \& Tax Coordination * Serve as the primary accounting contact for the company’s **external CPA firm**. * Prepare schedules and documentation needed for **tax filings and year\-end reporting**. * Assist with accounting questions and tax planning discussions. Systems \& Process Improvement * Maintain and improve accounting systems (currently using **QuickBooks**). * Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting and operational visibility. Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. * **7–12 years of accounting experience**, preferably within automotive, construction, manufacturing, dealership, or service\-based industries. * Prior experience as a **Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant responsible for month\-end close and financial reporting**. * Strong understanding of **GAAP accounting principles** and financial statement preparation. * Experience managing accounting within an **operational business environment involving inventory, service revenue, or job\-based work**. * Proficiency with **QuickBooks (Desktop or Online)** and strong Excel skills. * Experience working with external CPAs for **tax filings, financial reviews, and year\-end reporting**. * Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records. * Ability to take **full ownership of the accounting function** and work independently.
