Job Description
**JOB SUMMARY**
Provides technical engineering information to Project \& Construction Management Team to ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes and specifications.
**ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
* Assist with project submittals, submittal acquisition, and review incoming submittal prior to sending to Owner;
* Review project specifications and confer with Project Manager and Project Engineer concerning project requirements, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, evaluations of field conditions, design changes and reports;
* Perform concrete quantity “cut\-off” calculations at the time of pour;
* Participate in the preparation of the project construction schedule to include dates and the sequence of activities such as Craft assignments, Crew sizes, project site layout of offices, traffic flow and material storage;
* Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead\-time so as not to disrupt or delay production;
* Assist in development of design/drawings for temporary works (i.e. falsework, shoring, formwork, etc.);
* Miscellaneous engineering design work as applicable to the project (i.e. critical picks, lift drawings, etc.);
* Perform field layout and survey assist as required to facilitate construction;
* Generate staking request;
* Provide quality control assistance at critical times (i.e. before a concrete pour, etc.) to ensure contract compliance;
* Manage procurement and delivery of permanent materials and storage on the project site;
* Verify compliance with contract specifications and submit certifications/other documentation to the appropriate QC/QA personnel;
* Assist in developing work plans, post\-plans and pre\-plans;
* Order materials;
* Assist in generating project schedule (i.e. baseline, updates and weekly);
* Notify other Team Members of any significant schedule changes and participate in the development of a suggested alternative course of action;
* Analyze shop drawings, as\-builts and other contract required documents to ensure completeness and accuracy and submit to the Owner with necessary documentation;
* Assist the Superintendent in developing work plans and JHAs;
* Coordinate subcontractors as needed;
* Assist in acquiring necessary plans/specifications and perform takeoffs for change order work;
* Acquire appropriate documentation to support the Company’s position for potential claims;
* Expedite closure of the project by securing loose ends, finishing paperwork, getting equipment manuals and warranties turned over to the Owners, providing support for Construction Management Team, getting retainages and expediting any claims;
* Update daily diary;
* Maintain weekly project photos;
* Implement environment permits and regulations;
* Perform project quantity control;
* Perform weekly quantity input in HeavyJob and Acumatica;
* Review timecards;
* Responsible for controlling job cost items;
* Record new cost codes and track/maintain quantities within the cost control system;
* Assist construction management in maintaining project production on budget and on schedule;
* Attend weekly Crew Safety Meeting and monthly Mass Safety Meeting;
* Be knowledgeable of Company safety policies and assist with enforcement of these policies in the field; and
* Perform activity take\-offs.
**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY**
May manage and oversee the work of Co\-Op students or Field Engineering Interns.
**RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
**Education and/or Experience**
* Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 6 months construction engineering experience and/or training; or
* 2 years related experience and/or training; and
* Beginner knowledge of construction equipment \& techniques, drawing \& specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to the project.
**Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements**
* Required Company or Regulatory Certifications and
* Required Company Safety Certifications.
**LANGUAGE, MATH, AND REASONING ABILITY**
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents;
* Ability to respond to common inquiries or request for changes/claims from subcontractors, Management, co\-workers, regulatory agencies, or Owners;
* Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format;
* Ability to effectively present information to Executive Management and/or public groups;
* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals geometry and trigonometry;
* Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and
* Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions furnished in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
