****POSITION OVERVIEW****
Reporting directly to the Charter School Leader, the Academic Dean (AD) plays a critical role in driving academic achievement for all students. The AD ensures academic excellence by working closely with the Charter School Leader to lead and implement the instructional vision school wide. The AD also serves as a cultural and community leader by building teacher capacity in culture, discipline and parent engagement. The position furthers the mission of Promise Community Schools and BakerRipley because it helps ensure that all students and families are equipped to learn with the right tools in a safe environment.

****Essential Functions****

Instructional Leadership
* Encourage and support the development of students, teachers and staff and provide resources aimed at increasing educator effectiveness and efficacy
* Observe and coach teachers \- including co–planning, real time coaching, and modeling high quality instruction and lessons as necessary
* Appraise and develop teachers to ensure that all teachers are engaged in a conversation of feedback and professional growth
* Foster a rigorous educational environment that ensures high levels of student achievement through the relentless use of data to drive and refine instruction
* Collaborate with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to ensure that teachers are receiving the necessary support and professional development to maximize the delivery of daily instruction
* Oversee the implementation of a rigorous and highly individualized curriculum in all grade levels and monitor long term plans and daily lesson plans as well as vertical alignment with the support of the network ILT
* Lead and/or contribute to the design and implementation of ongoing staff professional development and collaborative planning time

* Promote collaborative problem solving and open communication among teaching staff members
* Ensure a school culture where students, educators and members of the school community demonstrate

* Manage self and others in a manner that creates a healthy, high\-achieving environment where staff feel challenged, and also fully supported and valued
* Create a school community that fully involves parents in student achievement through multiple outlets including home visits, regular community meetings and parent/family meetings
* Lead and/or support network\-wide initiatives as needed to foster strong school culture, academic excellence and network growth.
* Intervene with support when students have challenges in attendance, academics or discipline.
* Work with the leadership team to administer discipline.
* Assist teachers to develop strong partnerships with parents by enhancing communications.

* Maintain and monitor compliance in areas such as Special Education and LPAC
* Support with Coordination and management of state and local testing
* Work with the school leader to oversee the logistics in: common spaces (lunch, arrival, and dismissal), special events (trips, community meetings, and evening events) and tutorials.
