Assistant Controller (Accounting & Financial Operations)

**Assistant Controller (Accounting \& Financial Operations)** 📍 Toronto, ON (In\-Person or Hybrid) Trust Science is looking for a **hands\-on Assistant Controller** to take ownership of our core accounting function and help build the financial infrastructure of our growing SaaS company. This role is ideal for someone who has **strong accounting fundamentals and a *builder’s mindset*** — someone who is just as comfortable working through **journal entries and reconciliations** as they are developing **financial dashboards, SaaS metrics, and operational reporting** . Although the title is Assistant Controller, this role will function as the **primary internal accounting lead** , working closely with company leadership and world\-class external advisors. If you enjoy **bringing order to complexity, building systems from the ground up, and having real ownership over financial operations** , this role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact. **What You'll Own:Core Accounting \& Financial Operations** * Prepare accurate **monthly and annual financial statements** * Record and review **journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting records** * Manage **accounts receivable and banking relationships** * Track and report on **cash flow** * **Close the books monthly** and within **two weeks of year\-end** **SaaS Metrics \& Financial Insight** * Develop dashboards and reporting for leadership including: * **Gross margin by product** * **Gross margin by customer** * SaaS performance metrics including **Magic Number and Rule of 40** * Support company **KPIs and OKRs** * Help translate financial data into **clear business insights** **Compliance, Controls \& Audit** * Ensure compliance with **tax, regulatory, and corporate filing requirements across jurisdictions** * Coordinate and support **annual audits** * Maintain strong **financial controls and documentation** **Systems \& Process Building** * Improve and streamline **financial systems and processes** * Help build scalable **finance infrastructure and reporting frameworks** * Work across multiple **financial and accounting software systems** **Must Have Experience** : * 5\+ years of hands\-on accounting experience * Experience preparing financial statements * Strong experience with accounting software systems * Strong mastery of core accounting fundamentals, including debits and credits and the ability to confidently prepare and review journal entries * Experience working in a technology or SaaS environment * Comfortable working independently and owning outcomes * Ability to build structure and process in a fast\-moving company **Why This Role is Different** This is not a traditional accounting role.
