As we continue to evolve, we invest heavily in our people, systems, and processes to support our expanding business needs and strategic objectives. **About The Role** The Staff Accountant position is a key role within our finance department, responsible for executing a clean, accurate, and timely month\-end close process. This hands\-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with detailed financial data, understanding transaction flows, and taking ownership of accounts. The successful candidate will work closely with the Assistant Controller and broader accounting team to support financial reporting and help build the technical foundation necessary for future advancement into senior accounting roles. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills, gain comprehensive experience in general ledger management, and contribute directly to the company’s financial health and transparency. The role requires a proactive approach, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly GAAP and accrual accounting. **Qualifications** * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field * 2–4\+ years of general ledger accounting experience * Experience participating in month\-end close processes * Solid understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting principles * Strong Excel skills, including building complex workbooks and reconciliation schedules independently * Experience reconciling general ledger and balance sheet accounts * Ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate timelines, and follow up effectively * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy * Experience working with accounting or ERP systems Preferred qualifications include experience working with large operational or transactional data sets, exposure to margin or cost analysis, supporting audits or compliance filings, and familiarity with QuickBooks Online and/or Microsoft Dynamics F\&O. **Responsibilities** * Execute timely and accurate month\-end close procedures in coordination with the accounting team * Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate support and documentation * Perform detailed and complex reconciliations across high\-volume operational accounts and key balance sheet areas * Build and maintain reconciliation schedules and supporting Excel workbooks from scratch * Ensure proper accruals, classifications, and cutoff in accordance with GAAP * Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts including fixed assets, depreciation, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet accounts * Analyze large and complex data sets to identify trends, discrepancies, and operational drivers impacting financial results * Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather required information and meet close deadlines * Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports * Maintain organized, audit\-ready documentation and clearly track assigned responsibilities * Assist with audits, business licenses, tax filings, and other compliance\-related accounting needs * Provide backup support across accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and other transactional functions as needed **Benefits** * Collaborative finance team that values accuracy and accountability * Meaningful involvement in month\-end close and financial reporting processes * Opportunities to develop technical expertise, system fluency, and leadership skills * Support for ongoing professional development and training * Remote\-first work environment with optional hybrid collaboration for local employees * Competitive base salary ranging from $60,000 to $65,000, based on experience and skills * Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage * 401(k) retirement plan with a generous company match * Mental health support resources to promote well\-being * Flexible and unlimited paid time off to support work\-life balance * Same\-day pay program to provide financial flexibility when needed * Phone stipend (where applicable) to support remote and hybrid work arrangements Equal Opportunity ShipNetwork is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
