**Your New Company** A well‑established organization in the Alberta energy sector is seeking a **Financial Accountant** to support their Financial Reporting team during a high‑volume period. This role offers the opportunity to work within a large, structured finance department with exposure to public reporting, US GAAP/IFRS, MD\&A preparation, and regulatory filings. For the right candidate, this contract could be extended or evolve into a permanent opportunity. **Your New Role** As the Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, management reporting, and regulatory submissions. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, auditors, and the financial reporting leadership team while contributing to internal controls, process improvements, automation initiatives, and compliance with accounting standards. **Key Responsibilities** * Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial statements, MD\&A, and management reporting packages * Perform journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting analysis * Assist with internal and external audit requests * Research and implement new accounting standards * Support internal controls design, evaluation, and documentation * Administer controls over financial reporting processes * Review financial processes to identify automation opportunities and support workflow improvements * Provide input on regulatory applications and interpret regulatory decisions affecting financial statements * Conduct financial studies, analysis, and research * Support compliance with US GAAP, tax, and securities regulations where required * Assist the finance team in evaluating reporting frameworks (US GAAP vs. IFRS for SEC issuer considerations) * Ensure financial systems and data integrity align with accounting guidelines and procedures * Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned **What You’ll Need to Succeed** **Required Qualifications** * Post‑secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business * Minimum 3\-5yrs of accounting experience * CPA designation or in progress(required) * Strong knowledge of GAAP, US GAAP, IFRS, and taxation concepts * Advanced Excel skills; strong proficiency in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint * Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to streamline processes * High attention to detail and accuracy * Familiarity with SAP is an asset Nice to have * Experience with **Workiva** and **SAP** * Experience in regulated industries, ideally energy or utilities **What You’ll Get in Return** * Competitive hourly rate * 3‑month contract with strong potential for extension or permanent conversion * Hybrid model after training (Tue–Thu in office; Mon \& Fri WFH) * Opportunity to join a respected, stable organization in a high‑impact role * Exposure to US GAAP, IFRS, MD\&A, SEC considerations, and regulatory reporting * Collaborative, supportive finance team environment **What You Need to Do Now** If you’re interested in this role, click “apply now” to forward an up‑to‑date copy of your CV, or reach out to your Hays consultant to learn more.
